Introduction to the Book of Acts
The book of Acts is a very rewarding read. I have found every time I study Acts, it always provides added blessings, new and good stuff in my life starts happening! It was written by Dr. Luke, who personally traveled with Paul, and they planted churches and ministries in homes throughout the holy land. They were the first ever to do that!
Luke also wrote the Book of Luke, obviously, but he is considered one of the greatest historians. He was a pretty smart dude! He was meticulous in recording details and reporting on them in a very exact manner. Sounds like a doctor, huh? In his wisdom he wrote very accurately. In God's wisdom, Luke saw some unbelievable things!
Pay special attention to chapter 1 of Acts. What command did Jesus give for the disciples to do? Wait for "what was promised". But what did the disciples do near the end of the chapter? They made a big decision, before the promise had occurred. Then in chapter 2 the promised Holy Spirit came upon those in the upper room. Have you ever "jumped the gun" and made a premature decision and then found out later if you would have waited just a little while longer, had more patience, that there might have been a different outcome?
That's what was so good about Luke's recording this. He told the truth about things. He even included mistakes people made. If I were writing an account of things, I sure wouldn't put all my mistakes in the report. I'd just want to look good. But Luke writes for accuracy. He's not trying to please anyone, He's just writing things as they are.
Read on to find out what the new church did about their walk with Christ. You'll find we are still doing some of the same things today. Most importantly, pay close attention to the fellowship, the love, the accountability of believers and what it means to the kingdom of God throughout the whole book.
When you get there, take a look at chapter 20. Thus far in the book, Paul was traveling with a changing group of friends. Luke says "they" did this or that, then in chapter 20 verse 5 he starts writing "we" did this or that. So Luke joined Paul as one of his companions on their journeys together.
You'll be specially blessed as you read the Acts of the Apostles. Enjoy. Here's Chapter 1-2
